BANGOR - Stung by recent criticism over stalled talks with Bangor on combining emergency dispatch centers, the Penobscot County commissioners fired back Tuesday, with one commissioner contending the city may be "grabbing at straws" and trying to back away from the negotiating table. "They're muddying the water," Commissioner Tom Davis said at Tuesday's commissioners meeting.
Bangor Man Charged with Oui and Operating After Suspension
A Bangor man squealed the tires of his orange Mustang late Sunday night when employees at Leadbetters Mini Shop wouldn't sell him alcohol because of his intoxicated state. Bangor police later charged Raymond Gallegos, 44, with operating after suspension and operating under the influence of intoxicants.
Bia Parking Garage Issue Sent Back to Panel
BANGOR - City councilors on Monday kicked the Bangor International Airport parking garage design and construction management bids back to their finance committee for further review. City Manager Edward Barrett said the reason for the delay is that questions still remain about the bids.

Woman Detained in Alien Smuggling Case
BANGOR - A Canadian woman who allegedly tried to sneak into the United States by hiding in the trunk of a car on July 14 as it passed through the U.S.-Canada border crossing at Calais was ordered on Monday in U.S. District Court to be detained pending a trial. Dora Arlene Sauveur, 35, of Amherst, Nova Scotia, will remain detained in Maine until her trial, which most likely will occur in September, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Mayo Hospital to Hold Medical Training Course
DOVER-FOXCROFT - Mayo Regional Hospital is sponsoring an intensive backcountry medical training course Sunday through Thursday, Oct. 2-6. The 36-hour course will enable students certified in advanced life support to deal with serious medical emergencies when they are miles from help and unable to call for backup.
