It was four days before Christmas - the winter solstice - when Arielle and Rob Bywater buried their infant son in a plain wooden coffin on a forested bluff overlooking the Penobscot River. The Illinois couple had always planned to deliver their son with the help of midwives in a home in Belfast, the coastal Maine town where they were married. Just weeks shy of full-term, however, something went tragically wrong in what was an otherwise healthy pregnancy.

Forest Service Saves Molly Molasses From Wildfire

BRADLEY - The Maine Forest Service played a pivotal role Monday in saving a popular summer camp on Chemo Pond that has served generations of Maine youngsters. The wildfire that threatened to consume Camp Molly Molasses, owned and operated by the Bangor Y, was spotted about 2:15 p.m. by a forest service air detection flight, according to District Ranger Jeff Currier.

DOVER-FOXCROFT - Kathy Goldner of Stockton Springs, the "Knitting Lady," will entertain listeners with stories of knitting grandmothers from knitting history and stories of the contemporary knitting scene from 6:30 to 7:30 tonight at the Thompson Free Library.
