Moss Inc. To Move 50 Jobs Out of Belfast
BELFAST - Moss Inc. has announced a restructuring plan that will result in the loss of 50 manufacturing jobs at its Belfast facility over the next two months. Once known as Moss Tent, the company is a world leader in the manufacture of tensioned fabric structures, printed graphics and display hardware used by major corporations to display and market their products at trade shows and other events.

Schools Opt Out of Laptop Plan Brewer Considers Buying Netbooks
BREWER - While thousands of Maine high school students will receive new laptop computers this fall through an expansion of the Maine Learning Technology Initiative, not every school is jumping aboard. The Maine Department of Education announced this week that it has placed an order for more than 64,000 Apple MacBooks for students and faculty in grades seven through 12, and will place an additional order for up to 7,000 more in the coming weeks.
Bangor Masons Find a New Home Foundation Buys Property On Former Semianry Campus
Masons have a new home more than 5 1/2 years after their historic hall downtown was destroyed by fire on a frigid January night. The Bangor Masonic Foundation announced Tuesday that it has purchased Wellman Commons, the Beach Chapel and the Ruth Rich Hutchins Center that connects them on the former Bangor Theological Seminary campus.

Man Arrested Twice Within a Week
A man who was arrested last week on three drug charges at the New Stable Inn on Wilson Street in Brewer was arrested at the motel again on Monday afternoon, Lt. Chris Martin said Tuesday. A bail search was conducted on a room rented by Victor Legere, 53, who lists his address as the Stable Inn, just before 2 p.m. Monday. Officers found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in Legere's room and charged him with possession of both, Martin said. He also was charged with violation of his bail conditions.

Orono Library Receives Gift for New Building
ORONO - The Orono Public Library Foundation recently received a gift of $50,000 from longtime resident Evelyn Supple to go toward the construction of the new library on Pine Street. The library will open in August, and an open house is planned for Orono Festival Day on Sept. 12.

HAMPDEN - The Hampden Water District has found elevated lead levels in some Hampden homes. According to a press release from the Water District, lead gets into drinking water through the home's own plumbing system, which presents a threat to only some Hampden homes.

N.H. Man Gets Prison for Role in Drug Ring
BANGOR - The New Hampshire distributor for a St. David man serving a life sentence for running a marijuana smuggling ring has been sentenced to three months in federal prison. Jeffrey Dubois, 44, of Manchester, N.H., waived indictment, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute marijuana, and was sentenced last Thursday in U.S. District Court.
Emergency Meeting Today On Potato Blight
ORONO - The Maine Board of Pesticides Control will hold an emergency meeting in Orono today to discuss options for a rapid response to a fungus threatening the state's potato industry. The board will consider a request for emergency rules that will allow issuance of licenses to aerial fungicide applicators from out of state. The request comes from the Maine Potato Board, the Maine Department of Agriculture and the University of Maine Cooperative Extension.
