MILO - Sgt. Terry Smith, the town's acting police chief, has resigned from the department effective May 8.

Milo officer David Henderson said Smith applied for a position with a Maryland police department last year and has now accepted a position in that state. Smith, who has been out of work this week because of illness, could not be reached for comment. Henderson said he was authorized to speak on Smith's behalf for this story.
