MACHIAS - Selectmen opened bids Wednesday night for Project Canopy work in the downtown area.

The town recently was awarded a $7,878 Maine Department of Conservation grant to plant more than 100 trees and shrubs. The bulk of the shrubs, Rosa rugosa, or beach roses, will be planted along the causeway on U.S. Route 1.
