Changing Flora of Acadia Focus of Lecture Series

Summary

WINTER HARBOR - The Schoodic series lecture, "Acadia's Changing Landscape: Changes in Acadia's Plants and the People Documenting Them Over the Past 120 Years," will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, at the Moore Auditorium on the campus of the Schoodic Education and Research Center, Acadia National Park, in Winter Harbor.

Think the plants you see in Acadia now are the same ones your grandparents or great-grandparents saw? Caitlin McDonough and Chris Arflack, graduate students working in Acadia National Park thissummer to develop a process for Acadia to make their botanical collections more easily accessible, will present an illustrated lecture on how the flora of Acadia has changed since the late 1800s, including what has disappeared and what is newly arrived. They will discuss the people who are behind their study - folks who have been meticulously documenting the flora of the park over the past 120 years.
