Summary
I would like to thank Paul and Cynthia Levasseur for their poignant letter (BDN, Aug. 23) on living with autism and the reactions of others toward our children. The first step toward understanding is awareness and I thank them for pointing out the great challenges that children and adults with autism and their families face in everyday life.
We, too, have a son, age 9, with autism as well as an older son who is his younger brother's biggest fan. He is well aware that his brother has deficits in the areas of communication and social interaction yet treats him just like any other kid. We have always taught both of our sons that it is not polite to stare, yet when our oldest sees others looking at his beloved brother, it angers, frustrates and confuses him.See the full content of this document
