BELFAST - Janet Bacon, shot and killed a year ago in a Brooks home, was a woman who loved her family, cared for the elderly and disabled, and was terrified of guns, but she was portrayed "like a monster" in last week's trial of the man who pulled the trigger, a family member says.

Jerome Reynolds, 54, faced a murder or manslaughter conviction for the shooting, which he said occurred when Bacon, his father's girlfriend, forced her way into his home, where his 76-year-old father had taken refuge.
