Summary
Congratulations to the community hospital representatives for speaking out against the proposed Dirigo program and the underlying proposal to create a large merged health care system in Maine in the article, "Hospital merger concept blasted/Administrators warn of high costs" (BDN, Aug. 24).
Although Gov. John Baldacci has good intentions, the concept is misinformed, creates a proposed monopoly on health care services and essentially dissolves the free enterprise system that is the only way to truly reduce health care costs. The only entity that gains from Baldacci's proposal is the large health care centers that stand to eliminate any cost-reducing competition.See the full content of this document
