AUGUSTA Minority Republicans at the State House continued Thursday to pursue a carrot-and-stick approach in attempting to convince Democrats to reconsider a $450 million borrowing component in the budget passed a month ago by the majority party.

On one hand, GOP leaders reiterated their desire to try to work out their differences with Democrats when the Legislature's Appropriations Committee takes up the Part 2 budget, expected to be presented by the administration today. Republicans also plan to respond to Democratic demands for a GOP alternative to the state's $5.7 billion, tax-and-spending plan by offering possible solutions during a 9:45 a.m. press conference today.
