Interstate Bakeries Corp., the national company that makes Hostess snack cakes, Wonder Bread, J.J. Nissen goods and other well- known brands, is thinking about dropping small and independent retailers in Maine from its delivery routes, a company spokesman said Wednesday.

Justin Booth, spokesman for the bankrupt company, confirmed Wednesday that the move is being considered as IBC restructures itself nationwide. Many small grocers in Maine have been hearing rumors that IBC is going to drop them and deliver in the state only to Hannaford, Shaw's and Wal-Mart supermarkets.
