MILLINOCKET - Harold S. Boynton Sr., D.M.D., 87, passed away Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born Aug. 26, 1924, in Millinocket, son of Harry and Nola (Sargent) Boynton.
Harold graduated from Stearns High School, class of 1942. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital Unit in Burma and Okinowa. After his military service, Harold attended Ricker College and Tufts University Dental School, graduating in 1952 with a Doctor of Medical Dentistry. Dr. Boynton shared his dentistry with the Millinocket community for 36 years, retiring in 1988. Harold was always an active community member. At St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Millinocket, he served as a junior warden for 11 years and a senior warden for 11 years. He also spent several years on the Millinocket School Board and the board of directors at Northeast Bank. Harold was a member of Francis Elliott Post No. 4154, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Free Mason's Nollesemic Lodge No. 205, Millinocket. Harold's most cherished times were days spent at his camp with his family and friends on Ambajejus Lake. He loved the outdoors, playing tennis, fishing, skiing and gardening.
