MILLINOCKET - Joanne M. Burleigh, 76, passed on to be with the Lord Oct. 16, 2011. She was born Dec. 31, 1934, in Millinocket, daughter of Ernest and Alvina Mayo.
Joanne was in the first graduating class of St. Martin of Tours Catholic School, Millinocket, graduating as class valedictorian. She then married and was too soon predeceased by the love of her life, Leland W. Burleigh. She raised three teenage children on her own, working many years for Federico Bros., Ames department stores and finally as a certified nurse's aide at Katahdin Nursing Home, Millinocket. Joanne passed on her love of reading and nature to her children. She loved to sit on the picnic table at camp on Cedar Lake and watch the water and listen to the loons.See the full content of this document
