Portland Man Killed, South Freeport Woman Injured in Calif. Crash

Summary

A Portland man was killed and a South Freeport woman hospitalized in California in a Sunday night car crash that wasn't discovered until late Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Highway Patrol spokesman Kory Reynolds told the Bangor Daily News on Tuesday that Taylor Griffin, 40, died at the scene of the crash, in which he lost control of a rental 2012 Corvette negotiating a turn heading west on Highway 20 in Upper Lake, Calif. The community, about 50 miles northwest of Sacramento, is known as the gateway to the Mendocino National Forest. Reynolds said Griffin, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle when the sports car hit an oak tree off the road.
