EAST MILLINOCKET - Property owner rights on leased lands and the negative effects of a ban on bear baiting were among the concerns aired Monday night during a meeting on outdoor issues at Schenck High School.
In recent years, some of the purchases of northern Maine forestlands by companies and individuals have caused frustration for leaseholders, many of whom have held the leases in their families for decades, according to Stu Kallgren, president of the Maine Leaseholders Association. With the private landowners being able to modify leasing agreements, some leaseholders have seen their fees go from $35 a year to $2,000 a year, Kallgren said.See the full content of this document
