Summary
FALMOUTH - Maine Audubon has launched a new website that will collect information about wildlife sightings along roads from people all over the state. The website gives drivers, passengers, cyclists and walkers a place to report their sightings of roadside wildlife. The goal is to collect data about how wildlife make their way across Maine highways and share the information with state transportation and wildlife agencies.
For more than 10 years, Maine Audubon has worked for wildlife- friendly road planning. Strategies include choosing routes that avoid sensitive habitat and building culverts that don't block fish from moving through streams. The site will help biologists and transportation planners better understand where wildlife are on the move, and where animals may need extra protection from the effects of roads.See the full content of this document
