Medicaid Backlog Shrinking Health Care Providers Fear Accounting Ordeal

Summary


The state is claiming progress on coping with a backlog of Medicaid payments that left many providers uncompensated until this week after a new computer billing system came on line in the middle of January.

However, while most providers - doctors, dentists, counselors, nursing homes, community support staff and others - have reportedly received a payment this week, many are concerned that millions of dollars in lump-sum interim payments will create an accounting nightmare when it comes time to balance the books.
