AUGUSTA - When the Department of Education released the names of the candidates for Maine Teacher of the Year last week, teachers from the eastern and northern part of the state were glaringly absent.

Although some speculated that the reason may have been related to the region's lukewarm support for school consolidation, the fact of the matter was that no schools from the northern regions submitted the names of any teachers for the award.
