Not Feeling Safe

Summary

President Bush says the Iraq war was necessary to keep the homeland safe. Do I feel safer when Osama bin Laden is still free in Pakistan? Do I feel safer now that the U.S. economy is broke? Do I feel safe when al-Qaida, which in 2001 had about 200 members, now has hundreds of thousands?

Bush looked into Russian President Vladimir Putin's eyes and told us what a good man he was. Putin is now elected for life as the head of state of Russia. For the first time since the Cold War ended, the Russians have an "elected" dictator and they are flying nuclear- loaded bombing missions at us. And for the first time since the 1980s, Russian nuclear submarines are sitting 15 miles off our coast. How safe are we if they can hit us in 60 seconds? No, Mr. Bush, I do not feel safe.
