BANGOR - Mark Rey, the under secretary for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Forest Service and Natural Resources Conservation Service, was in town Thursday telling residents that Congress needs to pass the 2007 Farm Bill this year.

Benefits for Maine are at stake, he said. If the bill is not passed, Congress will have two choices - revert to policies written in 1949, which is very unlikely, Rey said, or extend the 2002 Farm Bill by five years.
