Princeton Pupil Spells 'Vermicelli' to Win Bee

EAST MACHIAS - Holly Stanhope, a sixth-grader at Princeton Elementary School, won the Washington County Spelling Bee last week. Her winning word: vermicelli, a kind of pasta.

The 12-year-old outspelled runner-up Jason McLellan, an eighth- grader from East Range School in Topsfield, in the 15th round. McLellan missed his final word: unappeasable.
