We're reminded of the inspiration for our modern-day Santa Claus when we sing the carol "Jolly Old Saint Nicholas." He was a man who lived in a community with great need. He saw good people who were struggling to manage everyday life. He was in a position to ignore it and go on with his own life. But he didn't! Instead, he gave selflessly to his community, not only of his money but also of himself.
