BANGOR - To stop the loss of as much as $250,000 a year in unpaid ambulance fees owed the city, Bangor officials said Wednesday they intend to increase staffing and technology to collect the money.
The city, through the Bangor Fire Department, bills out as much as $1.2 million in fees for ambulance calls, although it only gets back about $950,000 from patients, hospitals and insurance companies, City Finance Director Debbie Cyr said Wednesday during a meeting of the Bangor City Council's finance committee.
