ROCKLAND - The City Council on Wednesday voted 3-2 to defeat a proposed ordinance amendment that would have prevented Maine Eastern Railroad from using the downtown passenger station on Union Street and forced the company instead to use the maintenance depot a half- mile out of town.
The railroad issue has split the community since the trains were reintroduced to Rockland at the city's request in 2005. Many residents living near the Union Street station maintain that the diesel fumes from the locomotives make them sick.See the full content of this document
