Summary
I have to take exception with Rep. Mike Michaud's politicizing current attempts to reform Social Security. Every president in recent history, including Clinton, has acknowledged that our Social Security system is headed for serious financial troubles as baby boomers begin to retire. Yet no previous president has put forward a solution to this vexing problem.
I applaud President Bush for his willingness to start the needed dialogue about Social Security reform and his openness to consider any viable proposal. It's time for members of Congress who are serious about addressing this issue to step forward with plans of their own.
