BANGOR - Running a car on tap water and baking soda may sound far- fetched, but one local teacher is driving around town using the technology to improve his gas mileage, and is encouraging his students to come up with more efficient designs.

"It shows the students one way to do it and hopefully they'll come up with something better," Ron Canarr, robotics teacher at United Technologies Center, said Monday while standing over his fire- red Jeep in the parking lot of the school.
