AUGUSTA - The Department of Marine Resources is warning people not to harvest shellfish anywhere in Cobscook Bay and throughout much of Down East Maine this holiday weekend due to historic levels of toxic red tide algae.

Shellfish purchased through dealers certified by DMR and restaurants remain safe to eat, however.
