Summary
I read with interest and a great deal of dismay the article, "Soldier gets year in jail for desertion" (BDN, May 22-23).
It appears from this that the United States has more and more serious problems than we are aware of; here is a young guardsman who deserted because of his beliefs. He told the truth and he will now be incarcerated for one year, demoted and will receive a dishonorable discharge from the military.
