In his Oct. 19 column, "Scoring legislators, misleading voters," author John Buell misses the mark. Performance review and economic accountability are important issues many of us face every day - at work, with our families, and within our communities. Why should we expect less from our elected officials?

In 1999, the Maine Economic Research Institute was created to address this very need. MERI provides objective, nonpartisan information on Maine's economy. MERI also measures the economic performance of Maine's policy-makers. MERI's methodology and results are clearly communicated on its Web site, www.fixmaine.com.
